Landfill Operations

Environmental Services offers a wide range of disposal services at Los Reales Landfill which includes recycling of special items and disposal of household hazardous waste (HHW).

Residential Rates

Landfill entrance
  • Any covered load 2000 pounds or less $10
  • Any covered load more than 2000 pounds $32 per ton
  • Uncovered loads will be charged an additional $5
  • Tires, $2 each (passenger and light truck trires only), in addition to any other applicable fees
  • Special handling $75 per ton minimum
  • Disposal of appliances designed to use refrigerant, $5 per appliance in addition to other applicable fees

Commercial Rates

  • Commercial customers are charged $32 per ton for covered loads.
  • Additional $5 fee for uncovered loads.
  • Tire disposal, $150 per ton, $15 minimum (no mixed loads, no off-road tires).

Los Reales Landfill does not accept commercial recycling - call 520-791-5000 for information about commercial recycling.

Note: Call 520-791-4183 to arrange special handling.  Call 520-791-5151 to provide the required 24-hour advance notice for residential waste hauled in commercial vehicles.

Scrap Metal

Residents and commercial customers may bring metal appliances and other scrap metal items to Los Reales for recycling at no charge.*  No automobiles are accepted.

Acceptable scrap metal is listed below.

  • Washers
  • Dryers
  • Coolers
  • Hot Water Heaters
  • Pressurized Gas Containers
  • Propane Tanks
  • Hazardous Waste

*$5.00 Refrigerant Evacuation Fee per appliance

                       Scrap Metal

Do not place these materials in garbage containers or bring them to the landfill - they cannot be be disposed of at the landfill:

  • Explosives or ammunition
  • Pressurized gas containers
  • Radioactive Wastes
  • Bulk Liquids
  • Fertilizers*
  • Pesticides*
  • Herbicides*
  • Solvents*
  • Photo Chemicals*
  • Pool Chemicals*
  • Hobby Chemicals*
  • Household cleaners*
  • Unidentified substances & items labeled: Acid, Toxic, Flammable, Caustic, Poison, or Warning*

* Asterisked materials are accepted at Household Hazardous Waste collection sites.

         Do not bring these materials to the landfill!

CABOP (Computers, Anti-freeze, Batteries, Oil, Paint) Collection

Los Reales has a permanent CABOP collection site open during landfill hours at the main entrance across from the scale house. This is part of the City/County Household Hazardous Waste Disposal program.

Residential customers may bring, at no charge:

  • Antifreeze
  • Batteries
  • Oil (maximum five gallons)
  • Paint (maximum 25 gallons)

The CABOP site cannot accept business-generated waste.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

HHW          

Many hazardous materials have become commonplace in households and businesses. To keep these materials out of the landfill, the City of Tucson and Pima County jointly provide a place where residents and small businesses may bring hazardous items for recycling, exchange, or safe disposal.

The main Household Hazardous Waste program (HHW) site and three outreach sites offer free drop-off service to the public.

HHW Main Site, 2440 W. Sweetwater Dr. 8 a.m. to 12 noon every Friday and Saturday

These three outreach sites are open from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on the first Saturday every month:

  1. Eastside City Hall, 7575 E. Speedway Blvd.
  2. Tucson Water Plant #2, 1102 W. Irvington Rd.
  3. Pusch Ridge Christian Church, 440 W. Calle Concordia

While Los Reales Landfill does not accept hazardous materials from commercial customers, information about hazardous waste disposal from commercial customers can be found here.
