The Low Income Assistance Program exists to assist Tucson residents who meet the qualification requirements pay their utility bill. What is the Environmental Services Low Income Assistance Program?

The ES Low Income Assistance Program provides a $12 credit toward the ES monthly residential fee to City of Tucson residents who meet the eligibility requirements.

Who is eligible for the program?

To be eligible, customers must receive residential refuse (trash) collection service from the City of Tucson, and receive a City of Tucson Utility Services bill (water bill) that includes the $14.50 ES fee. The bill must be in the applicant’s name, and the applicant must meet income eligibility requirements.

How do I qualify for the program?

Customers should review the income requirements to determine if they qualify for the program. Applications are available by calling ES Customer Service at 520-791-3171 or customers can download a PDF of the application and fact sheet (English/Espanol).

How do I calculate my income?

Income is considered the combined income of all persons living in the home, including: salary (before-tax), child support, alimony, interest earnings, rental income, and temporary assistance (Supplemental Security income, State Supplemental Payment, Social Security, Veteran, Disability, Unemployment, Retirement benefits and other cash public assistance).

How long is the program good for?

The certification for the ES Low Income Assistance Program runs from January to December of each calendar year. Customers must re-apply by the end of every year to receive the credit for the following year. ES will send notification to re-apply prior to the December deadline.

What are common problems to avoid?

Make sure all areas of the application are complete, including signing the application. Make sure you live in the City of Tucson and receive a monthly $14.50 bill from the City for refuse service. (Tenants are NOT eligible if they do not pay for refuse, if they pay their landlord for refuse, or if they pay a private company for refuse service).

Para esta solicitud se suman TODOS los ingresos de TODAS las personas que viven en el domicilio, incluyendo salarios antes de impuestos, ayudas para niños, alimonía (pagos por divorcio), ganancia de intereses, ingresos por rentas y ayudas temporales (Supplemental Security, State Supplemental Payment, Social Security, Veteran, Disability, desempleo, pensiones por retiro y cualquier otro ingreso en efectivo de cualquier programa de asistencia pública).

¿Cuanto tiempo dura este programa?

La certificación para el Programa de Asistencia por Bajos Ingresos del Departamento de Servicios Ambientales es de Enero a Dicembre, o sea, un año calendario. Usted debe volver a solicitar este apoyo al final del año, a fín de recibir el crédito para el siguiente año. El Departmento le enviará una notificación para que Usted remita su solicitud antes de que esta se venza en Diciembre.

¿Cuales son los errores que debo evitar?

Asegúrese de llenar todos los espacios en la solicitud, incluyendo la firma.

Asegúrese de de que Usted vive dentro de los límites de la Ciudad de Tucson y de que Usted recibe mensualmente de la Ciudad una cuenta de $14.50 para la recolección de basura. (Quienes rentan NO son elegibles si no pagan por este concepto, o si se lo pagan al propietario, o si pagan a una compañía privada por la recolección de basura).
