Greyhound Bus TerminalGreyhound Bus TerminalIn 2003, the City of Tucson (City) received a $73,500 grant to complete Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) at the Greyhound Bus Terminal in downtown Tucson. A comprehensive environmental evaluation of the property was required to identify and assess potential environmental concerns to allow demolition of the bus terminal building and site redevelopment. Grant funding was used to complete the evaluation and included the following:
The site investigation and UST removal activities were completed in March 2005 and the pre-demolition asbestos survey was completed in August 2005. The site investigation activities demonstrated that no environmental threat from releases of fuels and oils associated with the site exist. The asbestos investigation identified materials that will require special controls and demolition techniques to protect demolition contractors and the public from possible airborne asbestos particles during demolition of the terminal building. The City received a letter from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) stating that no further environmental assessment or remediation actions are required at the site. As a result of the work accomplished with this grant, the Greyhound bus terminal has been demolished and is now ready for transformation as part of the voter-approved Rio Nuevo Downtown Redevelopment Project.
